Indian Types of ethical and philosophical Buddhism did not easily find acceptance in China; it took centuries of contact before a distinctively Chinese adaptation of Buddhism was effected that proved to be congenial to Chinese soil. The beautiful style and graphic description give an interest and charm to this book, which holds the attention without the aid of startling incidents or sensational extravagance.

Mr. Hope, being disinclined to follow any of the beaten tracks of romance writing, is endowed with exceeding originality.
